General FAQs:

Q- Can a permanent magnet become demagnetized?

A- In a word, “yes”. There are a number of ways that this can happen. Some common ways this happens is excess heating of the magnet, subjecting the magnet to an alternating magnetic field and hammering (or jarring) the magnet.

Q- Is a magnet dangerous to a person?

A- In most cases, the answer is “no”. However, people who have pacemakers or certain metals implanted in their bodies should stay away from strong magnetic fields.

Q- What personal items can a magnet damage?

A- In general a strong magnet can damage any type of magnetic storage media (E.g. credit or ATM card stripes, digital camera cards, computer drives, cell phone memory, etc.) As well, some watches can be affected by a strong magnet. As a result, it is safest to keep personal items away from an industrial magnet.
